Styles P Calls Past Feud With 50 Cent “Lyrical Sparring”
Styles P says The Lox, G-Unit, and Dipset tour is still just an idea, commends Kendrick Lamar for “Control” verse.
According to Styles P, the past beef between The Lox and fellow New York City artist 50 Cent wasn’t as heated as some may have assumed it was. During a newly-published interview with Vlad TV, The Lox lyricist referred to the Yonkers-based group’s beef with 50 as “lyrical sparring.”
While speaking on the alleged feud between The Lox and 50 Cent, Styles offered his thoughts on how beef between artists is currently handled in today’s music. He shared his belief that artists today “aren’t really realistic” or are too buddy-buddy with one another to feud on wax or challenge their fellow artists lyrically on a record.
“Yeah, I think we was cool after that,” Styles P said when asked about his on-air conversation with 50 Cent years ago. “Seemed kinda cool. Then we went to do that—It was us, Dipset. He did a thing at Governors Island. He did a show at Governors Island. We came out. Dipset came out. It wasn’t like heated beef though. Lyrical sparring. That’s it…I think Hip Hop is meant to be competitive. You’re meant to be competitive. We’re competitive to a point where when me, Sheek, and Kiss is in the studio we’re working together, but we’re competitive. You know what I’m saying? It’s not like ‘Yeah, I want Sheek or Kiss to have the best verse.’
“I think it’s just that people aren’t really realistic or face reality with they self or they too buddy-buddied up to be normal,” he added. “I’ll tell you in a minute you can be cool as shit with me. If I’m in the studio and we gonna get on a song together, I’m gonna try to take you down. I’mma aim for your head. I’mma aim for you neck…And you supposed to do the same with me. I ask that of you. I would hope that that’s the attitude you bring to the table. Cause then you get the best out of each other.”
Styles P also offered an update on the possible The Lox, G-Unit, and Dipset tour, Sheek Louch spoke on last year.
“I think it’s an idea that they’re trying to work on. But I don’t know. But it’s a grand fuckin’ idea, if you ask me,” the rapper said when asked if the tour is still happening.
